Job Description: Vendor Manager - Transportation and Logistics, Supply Chain Management
Position Overview:
The Vendor Manager is responsible for overseeing the vendor selection, management, and optimization processes within the transportation and logistics function. This role plays a critical part in ensuring seamless supply chain operations by efficiently coordinating with vendors and maintaining effective relationships. The Vendor Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive cost savings, improve service levels, and enhance overall vendor performance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement vendor management strategies and initiatives to support the transportation and logistics goals and objectives.
2. Identify, evaluate, and select vendors based on predefined criteria to ensure optimal service levels and cost-effectiveness.
3. Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors, fostering open communication, resolving issues, and addressing performance concerns.
4. Negotiate contractual terms and conditions with vendors to achieve favorable pricing, service levels, and quality standards.
5. Monitor and evaluate vendor performance against defined key performance indicators (KPIs), taking necessary actions to drive continuous improvement.
6. Conduct regular vendor performance reviews and provide feedback to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness.
7. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements through vendor management.
8. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies while managing vendors.
9. Maintain accurate vendor records, contracts, and documentation, ensuring they are up-to-date and easily accessible.
10. Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and best practices related to transportation and logistics vendor management.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
2. Proven work experience as a Vendor Manager or in a similar role within transportation and logistics.
3. In-depth knowledge of supply chain management principles, transportation operations, and vendor management best practices.
4. Strong negotiation, contract management, and analytical skills.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster relationships and manage vendor expectations.
6. Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.
7. Proficient in using vendor management software and other relevant tools.
8. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
9. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
10. Familiarity with relevant regulations and compliance requirements in transportation and logistics.
